ClimBEco annual meetings
The annual autumn and winter meetings are highlights of our interdisciplinary agenda. We gather twice a year to network, listen to inspiring guests, and engage in discussions and workshops.

Annual Autumn Meeting 2026, entitled:
"Science in society, and society in science: bringing ethics, value and power into the work we do"

Welcome to the upcoming ClimBEco autumn meeting where we will spend two days together, getting to know each other and exploring topics that lift our gazes and sharpen our critical thinking skills.
What is the role of a PhD researcher?
Is it limited to understanding and documenting problems, or does it extend to acting on and applying the knowledge you generate? Might your research involve conflicts of interest—such as with powerful economic actors, land use rights, or decision-makers—and how does this shape your own approach?
At this autumn meeting, we will explore questions like these together with experts in science diplomacy, biodiversity ethics, and the human right to science, using your own research as the starting point.

Bethany Carney Almroth
Professor at the University of Gothenburg, working in ecotoxicology and zoophysiology. Her research on plastics and their impacts has brought her to the science–policy interface, where scientific findings often meet competing societal interests.

Eliza Nobels
PhD student in the Financial Ethics Research Group at the University of Gothenburg. She will lead discussions on ethics and values in research and how these shape biodiversity outcomes.

Julia Osterman
From the ClimBEco steering committee and University of Gothenburg. A specialist in pollination and food security, she invites us to reflect on how we define and value nature in ecosystem services research.

Torsten Krause
From Lund University and the ClimBEco steering committee, working in Sustainability science. He will explore whether research can ever be free from societal influence—and what responsibilities we carry regarding how our knowledge is used in society today.
