ClimBEco mentoring programme

The ClimBEco mentoring programme is a unique arena within academia, focusing on personal and career development of early-career researchers.

The mentoring programme is offered to current ClimBEco participants. As part of the mentoring programme, mentees take part in a 10-month programme designed to promote personal and career development and to strengthen their relational and communication skills. Mentees are also paired with a mentor for one-on-one conversations.

About the mentoring programme

The ClimBEco mentoring programme is carried out over a period of approximately 10 months. The programme starts with a kick-off in March, where mentees and mentors are introduced to the programme and equipped with knowledge and tools to support a fruitful mentoring journey. The kick-off day includes an inspirational workshop on relational and communication skills.

Mentees are expected to meet with their mentors regularly over the duration of the programme. After the kick-off in March, ClimBEco organises two network events for mentors and mentees, one in the spring term and one in the fall. Here, mentors and alumni share career-related insights from inside and outside academia, usually followed by a dinner. The programme concludes in December with an afternoon meet-up including final reflections.

Eligibility

The mentoring programme is open to all ClimBEco participants, priority is given to those in their first year of the research school. The mentoring programme is free of charge, and travel from Gothenburg to the events in Lund are covered by ClimBEco. No higher education credits are awarded. Only the kick-off event in March is mandatory, all other parts of the programme are optional, although high motivation to participate is expected upon admission.

How to apply

Applications are accepted annually in the winter before the programme begins the following spring.

What are the goals of the mentoring programme?

The mentoring programme shall:

  • support PhD students in their personal and career development, through focus on building relationships and trust, through networking, and through mentoring.
  • strengthen the PhD students' relational and communication skills, through regular mentor-mentee dialogues and networking sessions.

Who will be my mentor?

Mentors are individuals that have earned their PhD degree and are working either within or outside of the university. Mentors receive preparatory training from ClimBEco to learn more about the mentor role in order to be able to take it on properly and confidently. As part of your application you may request a mentor with certain characteristics (such as working inside academia, in the private sector, government, etc). There should be no dependencies between the mentee and/or their supervisor and the mentor. ClimBEco is responsible for matching mentors and mentees but personal requests are welcome.
