Field work - Risk assessments

In accordance with the Work Environment Act and specific regulations, an employer or training provider must carry out a risk assessment for activities that may involve serious risks. Fieldwork and excursions may include such activities, and therefore a risk assessment must be carried out and documented in writing.

MGeo has an online tool for risk and safety assessment for fieldwork and excursions.

MGeo has a new online tool for risk and safety assessment for fieldwork and excursions:

Risk and safety assessment form at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences | PortalBas

The online document should be completed by the person responsible for the fieldwork or excursion, in dialog with participants. This should be done well in advance of departure and is used for both research projects and GU courses.

  1. Contact Peter Kornacher to get help and feedback on a draft version of the assessment. When you are ready to hand in the form, click the "Send" button. A PDF file of the completed form will then be downloaded to your hard drive.

  2. The completed form should be signed by you and the nearest line manager. The Head of Division signs risk assessments linked to research projects, and the Head of Department signs risk assessment linked to GU courses. You can use EduSign or sign a printed copy.

  3. The signed document should be sent to your administrator for archiving; Camilla Nilsson (Beta, Gamma, Delta) and Lena Söderberg (Alfa, Epsilon, GU courses).
