Before your course begins, you will receive a welcome letter by email containing specific information about your course.

Both the course reading list and the course syllabus or programme syllabus can be found on the programme’s page on lu.se under the section ‘About the course/programme’.

Please note that the reading list is sometimes finalised as late as six weeks before the programme starts.

The Student Union for Science Students, LUNA

As a student at the Faculty of Science, you are a member of the Lund Science Student Union (LUNA). The student union focuses primarily on monitoring the quality of education, and its aim is to maintain high standards across all degree programmes at Lund University.

In addition to monitoring the quality of education, the student unions also organise social activities, facilitate links with the business community, hold careers days and arrange lectures. They also organise welcome activities for new students.

The Joint Student Council for Geologists, Physical Geographers and Environmental Scientists, GNOMES

GNOMES is the student council for students studying at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (MGeo). It is run by students, for students. The student council represents students in the department’s and faculty’s decision-making bodies, collaborates with the natural sciences student union LUNA, gathers feedback on courses and programmes, and puts forward proposals to improve the quality of education. In addition to educational matters, it organises activities such as social evenings, coffee breaks and excursions. This provides a simple opportunity to get to know other students.

All students at MGeo are welcome. You can attend meetings, share ideas or get more involved.

A degree project is the final part of your degree programme. You will explore a topic within your main field of study in depth and demonstrate your ability to work independently. The project is based on academic methods and is presented in writing, often accompanied by an oral presentation. A degree project requires planning and perseverance, but also offers a great deal of freedom. You get to explore a topic in depth, test your ideas and develop your skills.

You carry out the project on your own or in pairs, with the support of a supervisor. The project is reviewed and assessed according to academic criteria.

At our university, the degree project is often closely linked to current research. You can work within a research group or in collaboration with external partners. It is common to use advanced methods, such as laboratory work, modelling or field studies. Furthermore, degree projects at our university are often characterised by a clear focus on sustainable development and societal relevance.

The degree project is carried out in Sweden or abroad.

Once you have completed all your courses and your degree project, presented your work, received a pass mark and had it published on LUP Student Papers, you can apply to the University’s Degree Office to have your degree awarded.

Every year, the Faculty of Science and the Lund Science Students’ Union organise a graduation ceremony to celebrate those of you who are graduating. You will receive an invitation before the ceremony.

You can always use TimeEdit to plan your studies. For some courses, the timetable is displayed directly in Canvas; for others, you’ll be given a link to TimeEdit.

If you can’t find your timetable in Canvas, you can always look it up in TimeEdit.

1. Go to TimeEdit (timeedit.net)
2. Select N – Timetable from the long list
3. Select Timetable N from the short list
4. Select a category and enter the course code, course name, group or other details
5. Click Search
6. Add the courses you want to view
7. Click View timetable.
